Bangladesh Bank has written to three banks to reimburse Tk 568.56 million to the customers of e-commerce company Qcoom. The central bank on Sunday (January 30) sent a letter to the managing directors (MDs) of the three banks asking them to take necessary steps to refund the money deposited in the name of Foster Corporation, the payment gateway company of Qcoom. The banks are Bank Asia, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited and First Security Islami Bank. According to Bangladesh Bank, the highest deposit of Tk 29 crore 49 lakh 42 thousand is in Gulshan branch of Bank Asia. Customers placed orders to purchase products from Qcoom through Mobile Service Provider (MFS) Nagad, bKash, One Bank's OK Wallet and SureCash. But the customers did not get the products. Similarly, Tk. 15 crore is stuck in Badda branch of Islami Bank and Tk. 12 crore 36 lakh 25 thousand is stuck in Gulshan branch of First Security Bank. The letter said, the directive was issued in response to a decision by the government's commerce ministry to refund the money to customers of Qcoom deposited at Foster's bank account. On January 23, the Commerce Ministry refunded Tk 4 million to 20 customers of Qcoom. These customers were not getting any product or money for a long time with the purchase of product from Qcoom. Earlier, Qcoom and Foster jointly submitted a partial list of 6,721 customers to the Commerce Ministry in the first phase. They will be returned a total of 59 crore 5 lakh taka. It is known that in 3 days, 165 customers got about 3 crore taka. Although another Tk. 5 crore was supposed to be released last Thursday, it was alleged that it was not possible due to non-cooperation of the banks.
